Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m currently studying Photography Level 1 with the Open College of the Arts. This is my Learning Log.

I currently work full time in retail management. I started 10 years ago, and never imagined I’d still be there now! That was never the plan. It’s took me some time to figure out what I would really like to be doing and what I have a real love for. I found that in Photography.

I remember looking through the college options when I was in my last year at school, thinking “Wow, Photography would be cool” and that was the one I wanted to do. I spoke to my teacher, who “advised” me not to and to “Do childcare instead”. So, at 15, that’s what I did. What the teacher said. It’s the one bit of “advise” I’ve always regretted taking. That is one of the reasons I want to do it properly now.

I’ve thought about doing photography over the years, but never had the self confidence to do it, or the belief that I could make anything of it. I found that in my Husband, who really believes in me. So much so that he bought my first ever DSLR for Valentines Day and encouraged me to do this course.

I’m hoping to gain more knowledge in the art of photography and find my own personal style and ways of working. I intend to get a degree in photography and, after that, hopefully turn something I enjoy, in to my career. So I’m very eager to get this started…
